I recently had the great fortune to work with Davidson Architecture to capture the redevelopment of Woomelang Station out in the Mallee.
Davidson Architecture has worked with Vic Track to restore a number of these old stations into multi use community spaces.
The development is part of an ongoing project by Vic Track 's Community Use of Vacant Rail Buildings programme.
The programme involves bringing various vacant rail buildings in rural areas up to a modern standard, and allowing local community groups to access them as community spaces. This is a wonderful initiative that will provide opportunity for local communities and attract travellers to visit these smaller towns. Once the works are complete, the Woomelang and District Historical Society will be the head tenant and will manage the building as a Mallee Makers Gallery. Some images of the site prior to the restoration works can be seen here.
It’s such a wonderful use of these iconic buildings and increases community capacity and connection in these smaller rural towns. I had a wonderful time discovering the space as light transitioned across afternoon to late night, and then night to morning.
Do you need a photographer who can spend time with your space and capture it's essence?
Please get in touch with me, I'd love to discuss your project!
