Australia's Top Emerging Photographer is one of my favourite competitions each year. I really enjoy the process of selecting my best images from the year before and assembling them into submissions.
Especially for annual competitions, I feel that I can gauge my progress each year. In my early years (not that long ago!) I purely thought about WOW factor (or what I thought was wow at the time!!).
Now I’m finding that I’m trying to be more discerning, and trying to put together 4-6 images that work together, and tell a story, or fit a theme.
This year (2019) I submitted four folios, three were rated as Highly Commended (Landscape, Travel, Student) with one coming in the Top 10! Even better, my top 10 entry came in at #3 nationally (student category).
That’s a pretty amazing achievement! I really feel like my studies at PSC are paying dividends in my skill and understanding.
Going through the process really matters.
