The Deserted City
Not being able to get out of the house to take any photographs during months on end of strict lockdown saw me going over many of my old images. I also thought quite a lot about what would happen if we could never go back (I watch a lot of Walking Dead and post apocalyptic movies OK!). The concept of a Deserted City kept going through my head, but particularly a play around the play on words - the city as a desert, devoid of life. I had quite a few images of Melbourne taken over the years on frequent photography walks. I've also absolutely loved visiting the Big Drift at Wilsons Prom (read about it here), and the stretches of huge sand dunes that make you feel like you're on another world. Playing around with photoshop I combined images from both places to imagine a city lost to time and all life. Blanketed in sand, decaying and empty.
The images below are what I came up with, they really hit a nerve with so many people, and are some of my most shared images on instagram and facebook ever. They got a really strong reaction, and I'm looking forward to producing some similar work, focussed on a city coming back to life.

COVID Balloons
Balloons are usually present at all of life's significant moments. Births, Marriages, Illness, Farewells, Parties, the list goes on. This series of photographs refers to events that might have been in non socially distant times. The balloons signifying those human interactions and markers of important events that did not take place during the COVID crisis; Imagining what might have been.
